Buck Mountain

Took a trip up Buck Creek last week(end) and the views were great. The views were great after we finished skiing, that is. The weather wasn't quite on the same schedule as us. But I still enjoyed the views on the homeward hike. Here's a shot of Buck Mountain, quite the impressive specimen.

In other news, Fitz Cahall did an audio story called The Crusade about Ben Manfredi, Charlie Berg, the Hummels, and finally me. It's here:
The Crusade on Dirtbag Diaries

Here's a trip report I posted on the TGR forums about Jack Mountain. That was just a classic trip. I'll cherish it for a long time to come. A more detailed report will probably follow on my site at some point, who knows when.

If you're in the PNW, I hope you're able to enjoy the beautiful weather coming our way this week. I certainly plan to take full advantage of it. If not, well, enjoy your desk and maybe get some pre/post-work skiing at one of the still-snowy passes.

Storm Skiing

Not what I expect in June, but much better than a desk. You were right, Charlie.

There's plenty of snow at Chinook Pass (5430 ft / 1656 m).

Overheard at a Bar

"Nothing on an 8,000 ft peak could be as difficult as the Kautz Headwall."
"You're a dumbass."

Sometimes I think if one were to talk loud enough for long enough, one could simulate the effects of altitude at sea level. Hypoxic bar-talk shit. Take a deep breath and reflect, champ.

Why do people focus on elevation so much? If you're a downhill skier, what matters is change in elevation, and the manner in which that relief is achieved. Aiming to ski only the highest peaks is about as smart as aiming to ski in the coldest places. I have no desire to traverse the Arctic Ocean. Maybe I could try to be like Method Man and

...swim the English Channel backstroking.
You don't know me or my style.
