I didn't know there was a rock section on the Kautz...
It's avoidable. The other way is easier, but more exposed to icefall hazard.
Try some Zinc Oxide - straightup! It works better than sunscreen on the nose.
The stuff I've been using has ZO in it.
When I was in Alaska, the only thing that worked was a custom-made duct tape nose guard. No amount of sunscreen.
You won't win any fashion contests though.
