Davenport comes to Washington?

New York Times article

The only real question is: Which route will he look to ski off the Raindawg?

I suppose that depends on if it's a spiritual quest, or if he's just racking up the summits?

Jason H. emailed the electrifying prose to me:

Davenport will get the first free, solo, winter, descent of the emmons glacier direct route on Mount Rainier's direct north east face for a continuous descent of 12k through crevasses 300-ft deep, the deepest cracks in the contiguous united states of america!

I meant this with the best of intentions :) I would love to take the opportunity to try something like he has done. It's a great feat! Still I have to crack on the sensationalism of most news outlets these days.

Expanding the 14'er quest outside of Colorado seems like a neat idea anyway...
I wonder how many there are in Alaska/Canada?

I can think of a couple of lines he might go for. One as yet unskied line in particular, in fact. But he might be wanting to partner up with somebody who's got local expertise...

His quote of: "But before he even thinks about attempting those mountains, Davenport said he would check with his wife and two young children" to me discounts the severity of Rainier. It's a big dawg. Are there any crevasses on the 14ers he's skied?

Lefty-He's racking up "Spritual Summits".

Mike Shaefer sent Thermogenesis on a McDonalds food tray in 2000. What's so newsworthy here?

There are two new routes high on my list for Rainier, neither of which are Thermo. There are another two that are also pretty high, neither of which are Thermo. JK should do Thermo with his penchant for objective D. I know he wants to ski that route.

This warm spring garbage weather is actually good for the higher slopes of Tahoma. Now let's see a window.

Ah yes, excellent and fun comments. We had an incredible trip to your local hill. I was blown away and consumed by Rainier. What an awesome and powerful mountain. Ted and I skied the Wilson Headwall after climbing the Fuhrer Thumb. Hung out and drank coffee until 11 a.m. until the wind died down and the skies cleared cause that's how we role in CO. summit at 4:30. Ran into Sky at 4 near the crater, crazy luck or fate to meet up there? He is an elite ski mountaineering madman. We got the first tandem ski descent of the Wilson by two 30+ year olds from Colorado wearing red and having frank way to much Hawaiian java for breakfast. You bastards are so lucky to have a mountain like that in your backyards. Ski Mountaineering at its finest in the world! No shit!

Cheers to you for being a good sport.

Come back for more! I'll be stoked to see more ambitious and able adventurers dropping big in Washington.

You should even consider trying some 8ers and 9ers; I swear they're good.
